Rhinoplasty The ideal nose varies from face to face depending on the size and shape of the nose, ethnic background, genetics, age and other variables. A well-proportioned nose that is harmonious with your other facial features can have a tremendous impact on your overall facial appearance, the way that you view yourself and others view you.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures and often considered the most difficult.

Nose refinement can be performed on any part of the nose to reshape it, reduce it, augment it, remove a hump, refine the tip, narrow the nostrils or change the angle between the nose and the upper lip. It is performed to correct functional deformities that can affect breathing such as a deviated septum. It can also correct injury and birth defects. Insurance may cover rhinoplasty if it is done for medical or reconstructive reasons.

Ideal Candidates for Rhinoplasty

Men who are 16 years old and above and women who are 15 years old and above are candidates for rhinoplasty. Candidates must have realistic goals for the rhinoplasty procedure.

Patients who want to enhance the aesthetics of their noses are ideal candidates. Rhinoplasty is also ideal for resolving functional issues like breathing problems.

Patients may need to stop taking certain medications and supplements in preparation for the procedure. We will answer any questions during the consultation and create the best treatment plan for you.

What Is a Rhinoplasty Like?

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure that is usually performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Sabry uses the “open” approach wherein scars are placed inside the nostrils and hidden on the underside of the base. The skin is lifted, cartilage is sculpted to augment or reduce or to re-define the tip. Occasionally, a tip graft may be required for optimal shaping. Osteotomy (bony fracture) is done to create a more harmonious/ balanced nose. The skin is re-draped and stitched closed. A splint will be placed on the outside if bone work is done and inside the nose to provide support if the septum is corrected.

The Rhinoplasty Recovery Period

After the rhinoplasty procedure, gauze and nasal dressings will be used to keep the nasal tissues in place, preventing alteration of surgical results. A cast or nasal splint may also be used to aid the healing process during the recovery period. Follow-up appointments will be necessary to remove the gauze and check on the progress.

Specific recovery instructions will be provided, including proper sleeping position to protect the nose and prohibited activities. Post-surgical swelling and bruising will reduce in time.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

Insurance companies may cover the cost of a rhinoplasty procedure if it is for functional purposes. Cosmetic rhinoplasties do not receive coverage. The techniques used, anesthesia fees, and follow-up appointments can all impact the overall price of rhinoplasty.
