What is a Mommy Makeover?

‘Mommy makeover’ is a descriptive term that applies to any combination of surgical and cosmetic procedures designed to restore your pre-pregnancy appearance. Preparing for Your Mommy Makeover

The best way to prepare is to understand why you are having the operation, what exactly will be performed, and what your results are likely to be. If you have medical issues such as high blood pressure or diabetes, these should be well controlled prior to surgery. The next step is to meet with Dr. Sabry and decide on which procedures you want to undergo. He will do a complete medical history and physical exam, to determine whether you are a candidate for these procedures, or for a less invasive procedure that would still allow you to meet your appearance goals.

He will examine your abdomen, breasts, and lower body. He will take measurements, photographs and record your weight. He will discuss healthy weight and lifestyle and may instruct you to be at your ideal weight and exercising regularly for a period of time before surgery. He will discuss the possible risks and complications, as well as realistic expectations. Once you both have a clear understanding of the risks and potential outcomes, Dr. Sabry will devise a specific procedure plan that addresses your priorities, is right for you, and that you both agree on. If you are a smoker, you will be asked to quit smoking for 6-8 weeks prior to your procedure.

As you approach the date of your surgery you will have a comprehensive preoperative visit in our office approximately two weeks before your surgery. A complete list of “dos and don’ts” will be reviewed as well as the pre and postoperative instructions and any questions that remain will be answered. You will be directed to avoid anything that has a blood-thinning effect (aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E etc.) for two weeks before surgery. You will be asked to minimize alcohol intake. Basic blood work for preoperative testing will be ordered.

What Cosmetic Procedures Are Included in a Mommy Makeover

When considering a mommy makeover, most women focus on restoring or improving their breasts and abdomen. A typical makeover might include a tummy tuck, a breast procedure, lower body lift and liposuction of the legs, arms or trunk. The term “mommy makeover” may be new, but the procedures involved have a long, successful, and safe track record.

Mommy Makeover procedures may include all, or a combination of the following:

Recovery After Your Mommy Makeover Procedure

Most patients feel tired and sore after surgery, but this is easily managed with medication. Swelling usually begins to subside within two weeks, at which time you will notice your firmer, smoother new contours. Scars often appear prominently during the first few months after surgery, but these begin to lighten and flatten gradually. They will never disappear entirely, so Dr. Sabry locates incisions where they can be covered easily by clothing. Compression garments and scar reduction products will be recommended. You will receive more detailed recovery information once you and Dr. Sabry have determined the specific procedures you are electing to do. During your recovery process Dr. Sabry will see you for post-operative visits. He and our staff will answer any questions you may have about your recovery, as well as your overall health and well-being.

Complications

All surgical procedures carry some risk. The risks and benefits of body contouring surgery vary with each procedure. Possible side effects or complications include: Swelling at the incision site(s), fluid accumulation in the legs, blood clots, changes in the sensation of the skin such as numbness and pain, poor wound healing, abnormal scarring.
