Eyelid Surgery Consultations
Your eyelid surgery consultation will be handled by Dr. M. Zakir Sabry. He will examine your eyelids and ask about your goals for the surgery. He will also evaluate your medical records. Based on his findings, he will create a surgical plan for your blepharoplasty.
He will discuss the entirety of the surgical plan. This will include the details of the surgery session, recovery, and cost. He will also show you photos of past results.
During your eyelid surgery consultation with Dr. M. Zakir Sabry, he will answer questions you may have about the procedure and will discuss any safety concerns related to the surgery.
Ideal Candidates for Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is perfect for patients who are unhappy with the constantly sad, upset, or tired appearance caused by drooping or puffy eyelids. Candidates must be relatively healthy with no post-surgery healing issues. The best candidates have realistic expectations.
Procedures
Upper eyelid
Incisions are made in inconspicuous places, such as the creases of the upper lids. Excess skin, muscle and fat are removed. The incision is closed with very fine sutures. Upper eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia or in combination with sedation. It typically takes 1 to 2 hours.
Lower eyelid
Incisions will be made just below the lashes. Dr. Sabry prefers to reposition fat in the lower eyelids rather than remove it; to avoid a “hollow” appearance postoperatively.
In cases where no skin needs to be removed, a transconjunctival blepharoplasty can be performed, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars.
Recovery
Dr. Sabry will go over the post-surgery instructions with the patient for a safe and smooth recovery process. After this, the patient can go home. It will be necessary for a friend or family member to drive you home, since you will not be able to drive.
Bruising and swelling can be experienced for 1 to 3 weeks, depending on your recovery rate. Prescriptions will be provided to aid in the recovery process. Physical activities will be limited during the recovery period.
Your stitches will be removed four days after surgery. Most people return to work in ten days or fewer. Contact lenses may not be worn for two weeks. Eyes can be sensitive to light and wind and may be slightly irritated for a short while; eye drops and cool compresses help to alleviate these discomforts. Complications from the procedure are uncommon.
A properly performed blepharoplasty will not alter your appearance dramatically; rather it will give you a rested, refreshed and very natural look.
Blepharoplasty may be performed alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as endoscopic browlift, facelift, fillers, neurotoxins, chemical peels or laser resurfacing.
